I Black Sabbath annunciano finalmente la data italiana che si terrà il 18 giugno all'UNIPOL ARENA di BOLOGNA. Questo show sarà parte dell'ultima tranche del loro tour mondiale 2013-2014 in supporto a "13", il primo album dei Black Sabbath con Ozzy dopo 35 anni.

Su iniziativa di Mauro Tollini, nel gennaio del 2013, gli storici "Epitaph" ritornano in attivita' restituendo alle nuove generazioni l'oppurtunita' di rivedere in azione una doom metal band italiana dei mitici anni 80'.
Gli Epitaph sono attualmente la doom metal band attiva più longeva sulla scena italiana e vantano nella loro formazione ex-membri di Black Hole e Sacrilege, realtà musicali che con talento e spirito pionieristico hanno fatto da apripista per la scena dark/doom nostrana, condividendo la loro esperienza con Paul Chain Violet Theatre, Run After To, Requiem, The Black e poche altre band che all'epoca si avventuravano nel proporre questo genere musicale in un paese che forse, non era ancora pronto per ricevere e promuovere i frutti ed i sacrifici di questi artisti.

Recensione : L'IMPERO DELLE OMBRE / BUD TRIBE - Corvi Neri / Warrior Creed (Split 12" 2013 Jolly Roger Records)

La Jolly Roger Records , cinque anni fa debuttava sul mercato con uno split 7" de "L'Impero Delle Ombre" e "Bud Tribe" , e oggi , per celebrare l'anniversario dei cinque anni di attività , ripropone un split 12" che vede come protagoniste le stesse band.

Lo Split comprende sei brani , il primo "Corvi neri" è un brano inedito de "L'Impero Delle ombre" composto da Giovanni"John Goldfinch"Cardellino nel 2001, periodo in cui l'artista militava come vocalist nei Sabotage.

La song . in effetti , rispetto al sound proverbiale del "L'Impero" , rispecchia un attitudine maggiormente orientata verso l'Heavy metal piuttosto che nel "Doom Metal" , mantenendo comunque un approccio musicale sabbatiano e l'originale goticita' che contraddistingue questa band .

L'intro di Corvi Neri è un estratto da una scena del film "Anastasia mio fratello" di Steno (1973) dove si ascolta un omelia recitata dal mitico Alberto Sordi (nella parte di un sacerdote) interrotta dal fragore delle mitragliatrici ,i testi del brano si riferiscono ad un evento realmente accaduto durante la 2° Guerra Mondiale nella chiesa di S. Cristina a Montefiridolfi dove i nazisti sterminarono i fedeli e il sacerdote intento a celebrare la funzione religiosa, pare che ,successivamente, la tragedia abbia scatenato dei fenomeni "spettrali", in quanto tutt'oggi, nel pieno della notte, passeggiando nelle vicinanze del luogo dell'eccidio, si odono un rintoccare sinistro di campane ed un macabro sussurro che recita un omelia.
Giovanni "John Goldfinch" Cardellino dedica questo brano a tutte le vittime innocenti delle dittature e delle guerre.
Il secondo brano è una versione alternativa di Divoratori Della Notte (tratto dallo spendido "I Compagni di Baal"2012) che poco differisce dalla prima versione, esso rappresenta un eccellente affresco del "Cemetery Rock" dei fratelli Cardellino ; una personale interpretazione di un "Dark sound" di matrice italiana, un compromesso tra la tradizione gotica/progressiva celebrata dalle tastiere , riff sabbatiani di scuola "Paul Chain" e assoli blackmoriani.
"Dr. Franky è la versione rimasterizzata del brano comparso nello split coi Bud Tribe del 2008 e dedicato alla figura di Frankenstein, un potente Heavy/Doom dalle tinte gotiche e mediterranee.
Complessivamente questo contributo de "L'Impero delle Ombre" fornisce uno spunto interessante che permette di focalizzare l'evoluzione musicale della band, dato che i brani proposti appartengono a tre diversi periodi e tre fasi artistiche della band.
Nella seconda parte troviamo i Bud tribe dei fratelli Ancillotti guidati dal carismatico "Daniele Bud Ancillotti", una leggenda vivente dell' "Hard & Heavy" italiano e vocalist storico dei mitici Strana Officina ; nella formazione militano anche "Dario Caroli" batterista dei Sabotage e de "L' Impero" nell'album omonimo(2004) e "Leo Milani" che fu anche chitarrista dei Sabotage.
I Bud Tribe propongono tre songs ; le prime due compaiono gia' come bonus tracks nel CD dell'album "Eye On The Storm" (di recente pubblicazione tramite la Jolly Roger records), la terza è la versione rimasterizzata della song "Star Rider" comparsa nell'album di debutto "On The Warpath"(1998).
Questi brani sono una bomba di pura energia ed adrenalina, un pugno nello stomaco per chi crede che l'Heavy metal di alta qualità sia solo quello degli anni 80', una prova di forza che porta alta la bandiera dell'Heavy nostrano.
Se amate l'Italian Dark Sound e siete cultori del metallo italiano, affrettatevi ad acquistare una copia del vinile, è stato pubblicato in un edizione ultra-limitata di 250 copie ed è destinata a pochi "intenditori".

Dopo l'ingresso sulla scena di Kröwnn e Fangs Of The Molossus, il 2013 sembra volerci ancora riservare delle belle sorprese con l'ottimo EP di debutto dei Glory Owl, una stoner/doom metal band triestina che annovera tra le sue fonti di ispirazione band del calibro di Baroness , The Sword e Queens Of The Stone Age.
La nascita del progetto avviene nel maggio 2011, dopo breve tempo propongono due promo song "The Sky Is Black Now" e "Trainwreck", con quest'ultima partecipano alla compilation "Trieste Rock City" della Kornalcielo Records di Mark Simon Hell (chitarrista dei Gonzales) e durante l'estate del 2013 si mettono al lavoro per la registrazione di un EP di quattro tracks.

I quattro brani sono caratterizzati da un abile gioco di equilibrio tra sonorità "stoner" e "doom" concretizzando una simultanea alternanza tra momenti di decadenza sonora e di adrenalina pura che vi terranno incollati all'ascolto dal primo al quarto brano.

Notevole la track di apertura "Shelter" e la bellissima e potente "Gretta" accompagnate da un tappeto ritmico di batteria e basso decisamente appropriati, chitarre fangose e una voce graffiante.

I Glory Owl stanno cercando una label per la loro produzione e non credo che dovranno attenderla per molto, al momento il loro EP è disponibile solo in formato digitale ed è scaricabile gratuitamente tramite la loro pagina "Bandcamp", dategli un ascoltata, meritano.

L'Heavy/Doom Metal band veronese "Sacrilege" riemerge dall'oscurità grazie alla Jolly Roger Records che, in collaborazione con la Andromeda Relix , propone la ristampa in vinile del demo omonimo datato 1986 e pubblicato oggi in 12" col titolo "Demon Woman".
I Sacrilege , avendo avuto nella line up Mauro Tollini (batteria) e Nicola Murari (chitarra), possono essere considerati un progetto post-Black Hole e pre-Epitaph; vi sono pero sostanziali differenze tra i tre progetti , sia riguardo il loro sound che nelle loro tematiche.
I Black Hole di "Land of Mystery" erano caratterizzati da un approccio dark/progressive e , seppur trattando tematiche di natura demoniaca , queste avevano un significato allegorico, mentre i Sacrilege , improntati su tematiche demoniache, erano dominati da un attitudine Heavy/Doom di matrice italiana e inglese ; gli  Epitaph proponevano invece un dark/doom orientato su atmosfere epiche.
Dall'ascolto dei Sacrilege si evincono influenze derivate dai i primi Death SS ,dai Black Hole e dalla NWOBHM con particolare riferimento alle Heavy band inglesi che si avventuravano intorno a sonorita sabbatiane ( Witchfinder General , Angel Witch , Holocaust , Diamond Head), è inoltre presente qualche affinità stilistica con i pesaresi Run After To sul demo "Gjinn and Djinn" (1985).
Un intro gelida e sinistra introduce la paulchainiana e catacombale "Endless Rain" ,una  "pioggia senza fine" che avvolgerà le vostre sensazioni in un manto inquietante e funereo.
La splendida title track "Demon Woman" fa rivivere il magico riffing di "Demoniac City" e , oltre che essere il brano piu interessante dell'album, fa da ponte tra i trascorsi Black Hole e i Sacrilege, stabilendo una continuita' ed un legame stilistico con il passato artistico dei musicisti.
"Siel" è una raffinata prova dei Sacrilege in una song piu melodica che non intacca l'alone macabro e maledetto che domina le atmosfere di questo LP.
 La lenta e ossessiva "Sacrilege" è una sorta di ballata macabro/psichedelica tra splendidi assoli e sferzate doom metal.
L'ultima song "Woodoo Ritual" è preceduta da un intro vampiresca e suggerisce elementi di NWOBHM , con particolare riferimento ad Holocaust e primi Diamond Head, arricchita da sonorità spettrali.
Una nota di merito va anche al remastering che ha restituito ai brani la loro originale bellezza e a tutti coloro che sono stati coinvolti nell'eccezionale impresa  di aver riportato alla luce (o alle tenebre) questo gioiello di "Italian Dark Sound".
"Demon Woman" è un glorioso fantasma che risorge dal passato, appropriatevene di una copia e fatelo vostro..

 DOOMRAISER announce the Drunken Mark III line-up. The Italian doom metal band is glad to introduce the new twin axes Giulio and Montagna. The guys come from experiences in bands such as VII Arcano, Nerodia and Cielo Drive. Giulio and Montagna will be officially introduced during the next 3 live gigs of the band: Friday October 11 at the Hardsounds Festival 2013 (the event will celebrate the first 10 years of activity for the webzine); Friday October 25 at Freakout Club in Bologna; Saturday October 26 at Lo-Fi Club in Milan for the festival "Macigni" (together with Monumental and Satori Junk).

I Plateau Sigma sono una Death/Doom Metal band ligure formatasi nell'inverno del 2010 come frutto dell'incontro e dell'intesa artistica tra Manuel Vicari e Nino Zuppardo.

Il concetto stilistico della band si basa su idee musicali di Manuel anteriori alla sua precedente esperienza con i "Screaming Jesus" , una dark wave experimental band.

Successivamente entrano nella formazione Francesco Genduso e Maurizio Avena completando la line-up.

Il loro debutto "White Wings Of Nightmares" è un eccellente compendio di sonorita' Death/Doom, Death Metal e Dark Wave impreziosito da un gusto compositivo progressive.

L'album si apre con la splendida "In The Air" la cui delicata intro immerge l'ascoltatore in atmosfere malinconiche ed autunnali ; il fascino glaciale e poetico delle sue note viene accompagnato dalla "clean voice" di Manuel che per tutto l'album si alterna al cantato in growl di Francesco.

Il brano procede con un riffing doom metal che manifesta un ottimale continuita con le parti melodiche dell'intro, sino ad arrivare ad un death metal piu canonico.

 "Lunar Stream Hipnosis" ha un profilo stilistico specificatamente orientato su un death metal caratterizzato da tonalita piu' aggressive alternate ad arrangiamenti dark/melodici.

 La song "Dreaming To Dissolve" costituisce la parentesi piu oscura dell'album , inoltrarsi tra le sue note è un immersione nell'energia e nelle potenzialita' della band che riesce ad amalgamare con talento e disinvoltura influenze musicali tanto diverse tra loro.

"The Cult Of Mithra" è un ritorno alle trame musicali del brano di apertura caraterizzato anch'esso da un Death/doom metal dal quale emerge una delicatezza ed un vigore compositivo non comune tra i gruppi death/doom italiani..

L'ultimo brano, la funerea "Maira And The Archangel" ,chiude l'opera con un phatos colmo di drammaticita' dando prova di un eccellente interpretazione e di un ottima capacita comunicativa.

La peculiarita vincente della proposta musicale dei Plateau Sigma consiste nell'offrire un prodotto capace di conciliare una variegata gamma di influenze musicali e tale prerogativa li puo porre come fonte di interesse per un pubblico di ascolto piu vasto.

The "Sacrilege" released a selftitled demotape in 1986 , it was a post-Black Hole and pre-Epitaph dark/doom band featuring Mauro Tollini and Nicola Murari. 

For the first time we will got this historical and underground gem in a vinyl edition with the tracks remastered from the old demotape .

The vinyl will be out in November via Jolly Roger Records , produced in collaboration with Andromeda Relix.
