After the release of their second album"Church of Shamanic Goetia" that made them join the roster Van records, Caronte are confirmed to be among the most acclaimed doom bands of the Italian underground scene.
They will celebrate their rites through the "Shamanic invocation tour 2015", sharing the gigs with the Germans ATTIC

Recensione: DOOMRAISER / CARONTE split (2013 BloodRock Records/Lo-Fi Creatures)

Doomraiser e Caronte sono due dei nomi di punta dell’attuale scena doom italiana. I primi con una carriera più che decennale sul groppone, i secondi in giro soltanto dal 2011 ma già entranti nel lato oscuro della forza degli stoner/doom freaks italiani. Nel 2013 hanno pensato bene di unire le forze e di sfornare uno split di durata abbastanza corposa, molto ben curato nell’estetica e nel suono, e non destinato a un mero mercato da collezionisti, come spesso accade per release di similare formato. La pubblicazione concerne di tre brani in totale, uno di lunga durata per i Doomraiser, due dalla lunghezza leggermente più stringata da parte dei Caronte. L’accostamento tra i romani e gli emiliani fa risaltare le forti analogie tra le due formazioni, entrambe intrippate sia di fiumi lisergici che di rigorosi dettami sabbathiani ed elettricamente wizardiani, in una miscela che non lascia emergere prepotentemente né un elemento né l’altro, ma li fa convivere morbosamente. I Doomraiser, i primi a scendere in campo, si smarcano dai più giovani compari per via di quell’estro burrascoso, rumorosamente motorheadiano, che spacca in due il pezzo nella prima parte. Quando ormai da qualche minuto ci stiamo facendo martellare da mazzate stoner/rock’n’roll/doom, si tira decisi il freno a mano, e ci si lascia andare a un viaggio in slow-motion verso la perdizione luciferina. I toni si fanno lugubri e cimiteriali, con tanto di voci da fantasmi a circondarci e stringerci d’assedio. Il brano è buono, l’unico appunto che possiamo fare è che quando pestano decisi in studio di registrazione i Doomraiser si avvicinano solamente alle sprangate nei denti che danno dal vivo. Non che in studio si acquietino completamente, però una volta che li hai ammirati live il confronto ti viene da farlo e noti la differenza. La parte migliore ci è sembrata quella conclusiva, la sensazione di avere gli spiriti dei morti accanto a noi qui si fa palese. I Caronte dal canto loro proseguono il fortunato filone di “Ascension”, nel quale mostravano una propensione all’astrattismo più pronunciata rispetto all’ep di esordio. Non si rileva quindi un’evoluzione pronunciata, diciamo che le canzoni proposte in questa sede si avvicinano più a una “Leviathan” che ad una “Black Gold”, mirando a una nebbiosa indefinitezza esoterica. La vera novità, ed è un punto di contiguità tra le due realtà protagoniste dello split, è l’uso di tastiere vintage, allineate su sonorità organistiche. In “Back From The Grave” e “Journey Into The Moonlight”, titoli se vogliamo piuttosto filmici, abbiamo un sottofondo orrorifico niente male, non così pronunciato da parlare di vero e proprio horror metal, ma non ci andiamo troppo lontani. I Caronte diventano più muscolari giusto in chiusura di “Journey Into The Moonlight”, dove piazzano probabilmente l’accelerazione più terremotante della loro ancor breve storia. Detto di una produzione che sa di antico e mantiene immacolata l’aura underground delle band in campo, non possiamo che esprimere un giudizio fortemente positivo sull’intera operazione, da tenere nella dovuta considerazione dai fans del genere.
